The History of Jackson Monument Works
Where it all started
Elmer C. St. John - Jackson, Mi - 1910
Our story traces back to 1910, with the founding of Jackson Granite Co. by Elmer C. St. John, located at the corner of East Michigan Ave. and State Street. In the vibrant 1920s, we expanded to a newly constructed building on Francis Street, next to St John & Woodland cemeteries, marking a new chapter as Jackson Monument Works. Over the decades, we've blossomed into the comprehensive service provider we stand as today, deeply rooted in our community and its history.
Where we are today
Chris St. John
Currently, the torch is held by Chris St. John, Elmer’s great-grandson, who represents the latest generation to lead our venerable institution. Chris assumed leadership after purchasing the business from his father, Elwood St. John, who retired following an impressive 43-year tenure.
Chris then purchased the building across the street from Woodland Cemetery in 2001
Notably, Chris St. John distinguishes himself as one of only four certified memorialists in the state of Michigan, a testament to his expertise and dedication to the craft of memorialization.
At Jackson Monument Works, our mission is to offer families meticulously tailored monuments that accurately reflect the lives and legacies of their loved ones. We accompany our clients at every step, from conceptualization to the creation of the memorial, empowering them to infuse their personal touch and creativity into a lasting homage.
Our foundation is built upon unwavering principles of quality and dedicated service. We specialize in customized granite stones that are delivered already cut and polished, ready to be adorned with designs and lettering tailored to our customers' exact specifications. This commitment to excellence ensures that each memorial we create is not just a marker, but a profound expression of love, memory, and respect.
